Marketing Techniques, Objectives and Promotional Strategies … where do I start?
The vast majority of small business owners don’t come from a marketing background or have any formal training on how to promote their business. In most cases they have a key skill or product that they trade or sell but to do that they must have customers. Gaining those customers and then keeping them, is an absolute requirement and how to do it better often seems to take on the mystic qualities of some form of black art.
If the above sounds familiar, I bet you are constantly getting bombarded with other peoples’ ideas of what techniques, objectives and strategies you should use
… “Go Mobile!”
… “why aren’t you doing Social Media? If you don’t you will fail!”
… “Email ! Old but still fantastic!”.
Every one of those (and all the rest) sound absolutely correct but they all take time and money and knowing just where to start becomes a major source of stress and anxiety that your business is missing out.
Understanding your Marketing Objectives and establishing your Marketing Techniques and Promotional Strategies can be a very big subject but if you get the basics right, you are a long way down the road to significantly improving your business performance in its entirety. Below is a technique that I use with a lot of my clients to help them understand the basic principles that apply to their business.
This all starts with understanding your Customers’ Journeys. Here’s a little video that Google produced about five years ago. That sounds like a long time ago but the principles they identify are actually thousands of years old and thus still apply today. Watch the video (less than 2 minutes) and then we can move on to the next steps.
Now that you have watched the video, I have a 6 Step paper exercise that will, when you have completed it, identify what YOUR Marketing Objectives are, what Marketing Techniques will apply to YOUR business and what Promotional Strategies you can adopt with some serious probability of success.
If you would like to see how this is done, I have a series of six short videos (about 15 minutes each) that will talk you through the process step by step. If you would like to see them ... for FREE ... just use the big blue 'More Info' button below.
